Vital
Records
Birth Indices
Please
read before
using these indices
The Pre-1907
Vital Records Indices are
a compilation of births, marriages and deaths that occurred prior to 01
October 1907. Before that date, it was not
mandatory that these events be recorded or reported to the state
or county officials. Therefore, because this law did not come
into
effect until 01 October 1907, many of the vital records events (births,
marriages and deaths) were never properly recorded. If you do not
find a name within these indices on these pages, it probably was
because
of
this fact. The indices within these pages are typed exactly as
shown in the records on file at the county level. They have been
double checked to ensure transcriptions are accurate. No
attempt has been [nor will be]
made
to change history by making corrections in spelling or dates.
Several of the records have either question marks (?) or a notation
that
reads "(unknown)". These records were either unreadable or not
fully
reported at the time of recording. Please keep this in mind when
using the indices within
these
pages. You will also note there are some names that appear more
than
once, particularly in the birth index.
There are several
reasons
for this, including, but not limited to:
- Corrections
made to the
first record made resulting in two certificates on file for the same
person,
and/or
- Unnamed
children (either
because of stillbirths or indecision on naming a child at the time of
reporting the event) resulting in
these
records being filed under the father's first name with the middle
initial
being an M or an F to designate the sex of the child.
HOW TO ORDER A
BIRTH RECORD
Please note
that I do not have access to the actual records. If you would like to
obtain a
record
of a person listed here, it is suggested that you print out and fill in
a request form and mail it along with the appropriate fee. These
forms are available in either PDF or Word
format. Effective as of 27 Oct 2007, birth
records are
now $20.00 ($3.00 extra is charged for
each
additional copy of the same record when ordered
at the same time), in the
form
of a check or money order, to the Washburn Co. Register of Deeds
Office.
The address for the Washburn Co. ROD office is:
